SWANSEA GIRLS HOCKEY LEAGUE

CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS

(UPDATED FEBRUARY 17TH, 2005)

 

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

1.     The Swansea Girls Hockey League is to be the name of the association hereafter referred to as the league or SGHL.

2.     The structure of the league will be decided yearly by the Executive committee, taking into account a number of factors including the number and ages of the players, sponsorship and availability of ice time.

3.     The Executive committee will consist of the following:

Past President (Non-Voting)

President (Voting)

Vice-President (Voting)

Treasurer (Voting)

Secretary (Non-Voting)

Head Referee (Appointed)

Advisory Council Representative (Appointed)

4.  Other members will be determined by the Executive

5. Executive Members will be elected for a 2 year term.

6. Board Members will consist of the following:

Coaches (Voting)

Registrar (Non-Voting)

Communications Director (Non-Voting)

 

 

5.     The coaches will be reviewed yearly by the President.

6.     Board Members will be appointed for a 1 year term.

7.     The team coaches and committee members will receive a copy of this constitution and all additions and/or deletions at the beginning of each season.

 

 

TEAM COMPOSITION

1.    All teams, where possible, will consist of an equal number of players.

2.    To ensure that all teams are evenly matched, the executive committee will decide upon which team and which line a player will be assigned.

3.    Each team shall consist of 3 lines.

LINE 1 (Junior Division) will usually consist of players between 7 and 11 years of age.  LINE 2 (Intermediate Division) will usually consist of players between the ages of 12 and 15 years.  LINE 3  (Senior Division) will usually consist of players between 15 and 18 years. 

4.    The goalie will be a player either in the senior or intermediate division.

5.    Goalie equipment will be provided to each team.

6.    It is the responsibility of the executive to review team composition after the beginning of the season to ensure that teams are as balanced as possible.

 

PLAYERS

1.     Each team will be provided with roster of players of all teams declaring her name and number.

2.     If a player stops playing, prior to the start of the 5th game and if the sweater is returned, the full registration fee will be reimbursed.

3.       A player missing 3 games without just cause will be released.

4.     If a player is assessed a game misconduct, or is suspended, a request for review may be submitted in writing within 48 hours of the incident.

5.     Any player leaving the ice before the end of a game for any reason other than an emergency, or as prearranged with the coach or referee, will be given a minor penalty.

6.      No 1st line player can play on 3rd line or the team will be in default.

7.     Minimum of 2 first line players and a goalie is required or the team will be in default.

8.     For games to be counted, teams must play 1 period and 1 shift of the first line or the game does not count.

9.     All penalties are 2 minutes in length and must be completed on their respective shift (line)
